Every day the kids can write a journal about their day. They can practice sounding out the words and write them down. The more they practice writing, the less mistakes they will make. Then, when we are back at school, they can share their stories.
Every day, each child can read at least one book from Razkids. The books are set up on their levels. First, they listen to a book and then they read the book and do a quiz if there is one on their level. If you lost the password, please let me know. I can send it to you again.

Thinking within the text
- Retell the story using the sequence words: first, next, then and last
- Remember important information: who is the main character of the story; what is the setting/problem and solution?
- Predict: think about what might happen next
- Infer: think about what the writer means and has not explicitly stated
- Make connections: connect the text to personal and world knowledge as well as other text
- Synthesize: adjust present understanding from the text to create new knowledge
Next week, it will be our last Google Meet. We have decided to have a Dance Party. If you wish to have your favourite songs played, please send me a link. See you on Tuesday!

After watching the video and learning with Mr. Matt Murphy, I want you to think about popcorn. Many of you like to eat popcorn. We are going to learn how to describe popcorn using our senses and, next week, we will write down our ideas. Do you remember what the 5 senses that help us learn everything around us are? (they are the sense of hearing, smell, taste, touch and sight) Have you ever made popcorn at home? Do you remember how to make popcorn? Now, let’s listen to the story “Pop, pop popcorn”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt7DfYrXHTQ&t=8s
After listening to the story, retell to your mom or dad how to make popcorn using sequence words: first, next, then and last. Now it is time to describe popcorn using your senses. You can make popcorn with your family and record your observations if you want.
Think: What do pieces of popcorn look like, smell, taste, feel or what do you hear when it pops? With your parents’ help, write down the adjectives describing popcorn. Remember an adjective is a word that describes a noun. Moms and dads can look at adjectives describing popcorn:
It tastes salty, yummy, delicious
It smells sweet, buttery
It looks white and yellow, bumpy, clouds, jumpy
It feels soft, squishy, warm
It sounds poppy, noisy, crunchy, clicky
Keep your notes for next week!

This week we do not have new words nor a new word family.
Let’s say a prayer with your child:
God of Joy,
Help me be kind to all people that I find.
Help me love God’s whole creation.
Make my life a celebration.
Amen.
Play your favourite music for one minute and think about:
What does it mean to have hope?
Who are the people in your life who help you find hope if you are feeling sad or having a hard day?
Have a discussion with your child. Then stand up, sing and dance along:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_t5xitQjIc
Now it’s time to listen to the story titled “Butterflies under our hats”:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0u1REun9Hs
Before listening, discuss the title and invite your child to predict what it could mean to have butterflies under one’s hat. Ask her or him to share words that come to her or his mind when they think of butterflies. After listening to the story, discuss what the story is about and then ask the questions:
Have you ever felt very discouraged like the people in Chelm?
Who was your source of hope?
Did you like the book? Why or why not?
What do you think was the message of this story?
Finally, I invite you to take a piece of paper and write “Images of Hope” and draw pictures of yourself or people who have hope and, if possible, include things that you or other people are able to do because they have hope. Or, your child may simply draw anything he or she thinks of, when he or she thinks of the word “hope” after listening to the story. You can also write a sentence of what the picture shows. Please take a picture of your drawing and send it to me.
