March 23th, 2020
Dear parents and guardians,
We hope everyone is doing well.
Today it is the first day after March break - the day that we were supposed to be at school. Sadly, We cannot see the children’s enthusiasm coming back to school excited to learn and to see their classmates. This difficult situation that we are in will make us stronger as a community and we will help each other to get through this difficult time. It is important that we take care of ourselves and our families. We are in this together, and together we will find a way to remain positive and productive, knowing that our life will become a “new” normal over the next couple of weeks.
We would like to offer some learning for your child and we am asking for your support. We understand that you may be working from home and that you also have other things to do. However, giving your child simple instructions on what to do every day should help them complete some work as they are familiar with our routines of learning at school. We am planning to send some materials in Language, Math and French weekly by email. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email us and we will help as much as we can.
We also want to thank you in advance for your collaboration and support for your child. We know we can do it together and our children will shine as they always surprise us with what they can do. Remember: your and your family’s health and well-being are the most important. Do what you can.
Sincerely,
Iwona Dabrowska and Mme Yvette Mouafo-Soh

Dear parents and guardians,
It is the third week of learning from home and it also marks Holy week in the Catholic Church. Please see resources about Holy week and Easter in the Religion section on my website. As everyone already knows, schools will remain closed until at least May 4, 2020, to protect the health and safety of students and staff. I have created this website as a new tool of communication with students and parents. Hopefully, this website will help you access the resources more conveniently as they are gathered in one space. You can always easily go back to the previous weeks to review what was taught earlier. I will update my website on the weekend and new weekly work will be posted every Monday. As you can see on my website, each subject has its own page where all the activities are listed for each week of learning from home. Many have links that you can click on and those links will lead you to different videos or pdf documents. The expectation of the Ministry of Education is that students spend 2.5 hours on math and 2.5 hours on literacy (approximately half in French and half in English) per week. Please do your best to meet this expectation.
Please ask your child to record their learning in a notebook or on pieces of paper if a notebook is unavailable (writing a journal, sentences, words with new word families). Please indicate a date when the work is completed. When we come back to school, I will need to assess their work.
If you have any questions, contact me by email. If you lost the passwords for your child to access Razkids and Zorbits, please let me know and I can resend them. Both apps are wonderful tools for learning from home.
Sincerely,
Iwona Dabrowska

Hello everyone,
Alleluia! He is Risen! Christ is risen from the dead and, with Him, we are offered the hope of resurrection, new life and new hope. This is a powerful, fresh hope, and it comes to us this year at a time when we need it so desperately.
I hope everyone is doing well after the Easter Holidays.
I have a surprise for you. Who does not like playing Zorbits? I have a special guest for you today: Matt Murphy who is one of Zorbits’ designers! He is going to teach you math today. I hope you are going to have as much fun as I did, watching Matt Murphy and doing the activities with my son who is also in Grade 1. Sit comfortably, watch and play Math with him :

This week there is an Easter Challenge. You are challenged to read, listen to, or watch the Easter and Resurrection Story and colour a picture or make your own Praise Poster about Easter. Share your Picture or Poster on Twitter @PrincePeaceOCSB or email [email protected] for a chance to be entered into a draw and win a prize.

As every year, we have Catholic Education Week that celebrates the ongoing gift of publicly-funded Catholic education. This year’s celebration is entitled, “Igniting Hope”. For this occasion, we are called to demonstrate our hope for others and ourselves. We will learn together what hope means to us and who can help us find hope when we are feeling sad and having a bad day. Please engage in activities with your child during this special celebration.
Sincerely,
Iwona Dabrowska
